INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE

I was honored to help facilitating the workshop on Indigenous Knowledge during the Ecsite - European network of science centres and museums 2024 conference, featuring major Indigenous Scientists. Among them was June Pardue, an Alutiiq and Inupiaq artist and professor of Native Arts at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. June joined us from Old Harbor Village on Kodiak Island, generously sharing her invaluable knowledge on fish skin art. https://lnkd.in/dN2ngvsr

Also contributing to the discussion was Anatoly Donkan, Nanai from Siberia, who has been working with fish leather for 30 years, reviving his ancestors' fish skin processing techniques. https://lnkd.in/ehZj5XZX

June and Donkan were joined by David Begay, PhD, a member of the Navajo Nation, and Nancy C. Maryboy, PhD, President and Founder of the Indigenous Education Institute. They are dedicated to preserving and applying Indigenous Knowledge and are currently developing Native astronomy educational materials with NASA's Sun/Earth Connection. I want to thank these Indigenous Scientists for sharing their knowledge and engaging in fascinating conversations. It was truly remarkable to listen to their discussions.
